Position Description
Primary purpose:* The role of the Engineer is to support new &
existing plant operations through process optimization and
identification of opportunitiesto improve overall facility
performance and increase Kinder Morgan's bottom line.Essential
duties and responsibilities:* Facility PFD/P&ID Development &
Review* Size and specify mechanical equipment, including
separators, filters, tanks, heat exchangers, air coolers, pumps,
towers, heaters, compressors, control valves, treaters, and
dehydrators. Select appropriate piping materials, diameters, and
thicknesses to meet design requirements.* Possess knowledge of
midstream process controls and instrumentation, including controls
narratives and cause & effect matrices.* Model and evaluate gas
plants, and suggest efficiency and debottlenecking projects*
Provide technical support for startups, troubleshooting, and plant
expansions* Design gas and liquid pipelines, meter stations,
compressor stations, and pump stations. Possess ability to
interpret and design Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's), Piping &
Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's), Plot Plans, Piping Plans,
and Piping Isometrics.* Develop single and multi-phase gas
hydraulic models and gathering system evaluations.* Develop station
process simulations and material & energy balances using ProMax
software* Participate in PHA/Hazop studies as necessary for both
new and existing facilities; assist in completion of Management of
Change requirements that result* Work with applicable parties to
establish facility start-up & commissioning procedures, operating
procedures* Complete and/or validate facility flare & PSV studies*
Work closely with Project Managers regarding Front-End process
design, finalizing H&MB & overall major project scope; assist
in evaluations of changes in basis of design as necessary* Provide
technical support to operations (including troubleshooting,
debottlenecking and optimization, maintenance projects, PHA
participation and action item resolution, DOT compliance, etc.)*
Possess fundamental knowledge of midstream gas gathering and
processing operations, including pig liquids handling, compression,
glycol and desiccant dehydration, treating, hydrocarbon recovery,
and condensate stabilization* Possess knowledge of codes,
standards, regulations and best practices applicable to the
midstream industry (including API, ASME B31.3/4/8 and VIII, DOT
192/5, NFPA, etc.)* Evaluates, prepares and analyzes designs of
process systems including NGL recovery plants, amine treating
plants, glycol dehydration, molecular sieve dehydration, propane
refrigeration, condensate stabilization, inlet compression, &
residue compression* Provides technical assistance in the form of
written reports, consultation, research, process debottlenecking
studies, & codeinterpretations* Investigates and resolves problems
associated with new or existing facilities and their process
design, including conducting research into project-related issues
and finding equipment needed for a project.* Initiate and manage
optimization review projects to enhance safety, run time, and/or
operating income.* Proactively seek opportunities to learn and
develop and to find solutions for maximizing value to the business
unit* Continuously review assets to enhance safety, mechanical
reliability, operational flexibility, and capacity.* Consult with
environmental personnel and provide information that is pertinent
to the facility's environmental permits that are required
Position Requirements
Minimum requirements:Education:* BS degree in Chemical & Mechanical
Engineering from 4-year accredited University.Experience / specific
knowledge:* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in natural gas
gathering, compression, processing, fractionation, construction,
and/or operations.* Process simulation and pipeline modeling
experience with HYSYS, PROMAX, WinSim, WinFlow, Synergee, FlareNet,
or similarapplications* Experience with rotating equipment.*
Possess fundamental knowledge of midstream gas processing and
gathering assets and design considerations including anyapplicable
codes, standards & regulationsJOB REQUIREMENTS:Certifications,
licenses, registrations:* Possess and maintain valid driver's
license and be insurable by company's insurance
carrierCompetencies, skills, and abilities:* Strong work ethic with
demonstrated ability to effectively work with minimum supervision*
Solid computer skills to include Microsoft Office Software (Excel,
Work, Powerpoint) MS Project* Ability to interface effectively with
all levels within the company as well as organizations outside the
company* Experience in process modeling applications such as HYSYS,
PROMAX, or VMGSim* Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new
technologies.* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
in a high-pressure environment is crucial.* Regular and reliable
attendance.Physical demands:* Ability to handle stress of meeting
deadlines* Ability to climb tank stairs and walk over uneven
surfaces on the pipeline right of way or at field facilitiesWorking
conditions: * Essentially indoors, but must be able to work
outdoors in project & maintenance activitiesPreferred education,
experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and
abilities:Above the minimum requirements; not required but
advantageous in this position:* Experience with third party
equipment manufacturer sizing software applicable to the gas
processing industry* Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera
P6* Knowledge of AutoCAD, Plant3D or CADWorksOther
responsibilities:Represent and support local operations during
design review, HASOP and planning reviews of all expansion
projects, duringplanning and executionAbility to develop and
maintain pipeline gathering system hydraulic models
