Employee Type: Regular Mitigation Resources is looking for an experienced Construction Earthwork Estimator. The qualified candidate will be responsible for bidding and coordinating earthwork projects from conception to completion, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and profitability. This role involves preparing detailed cost estimates for excavation, grading, and other earth-moving activities by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and site conditions, while factoring in labor, equipment, and material costs. The individual collaborates with engineers, contractors, and clients to develop project plans, schedules, and budgets, and aids in the management of on-site operations to ensure compliance with safety regulations and timelines. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and a deep understanding of construction processes are essential, along with the ability to adapt to changing project demands and resolve issues effectively. Job Description: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Assess the financial, technical, and operational risk of the project, including input into the decision on whether to bid on the project Conduct complex risk analysis activities and produce associated reports Perform complex analysis of collected data and metrics and prepare relevant and reliable forecasts Visit construction sites to obtain the necessary project-required information Evaluate proposals, specifications, blueprints, and construction documents to understand the project Work closely with the construction project manager to oversee and coordinate the bid process for vendors and subcontractors Review contracts, subcontracts, and agreements to ensure compliance with project requirements, risk mitigation, and financial feasibility Estimate time, labor, materials, and product costs to determine the overall cost of construction projects Produce written proposals, cost estimates, budgets, and updates for clients and project managers Provide accurate and clear quantity takeoff information to provide a detailed list of materials and assess the total construction costs Provide quality assurance and quality control of construction activities Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and increase employee safety awareness Review public and private land restoration and reclamation opportunities Prepare post-project analyses of estimated vs. actual costs and profitability Other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred but not required At least five years of direct work experience in the excavation and grading industry – project estimation or construction management required Strong analytical skills combined with a deep understanding of construction processes Time management skills to work on fixed deadlines Well-developed written and verbal communication skills - candidate will be required to liaise with vendors and clients and write and present comprehensive reports Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical skills Positive attitude and team-centered approach to problem-solving Proven track record of meeting deadlines Must be able to work independently Ability to travel to sites as needed, up to 30% travel may be required ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION Indicate Frequency* and describe job duties that require physical demands: (2) Standing: Photocopying; meetings, filing; presentations; drafting; digitizing (1) Walking: Go to telecopy/photocopy machines, printers, file room/library, meetings; tours (2) Sitting: Work station; meetings; travel (1) Lifting 35 lbs.: Moving boxes, books, luggage (1) Carrying 35 lbs.: Moving boxes, books, luggage (1) Pushing 35 lbs.: Closing desk/file cabinet drawers; moving boxes; using dolly/mail cart; opening/closing doors (1) Pulling 35 lbs.: Opening desk/file cabinet drawers; moving boxes; using dolly/mail cart; opening/closing doors (1) Climbing: Retrieving/placing objects from/to top shelves; stairs to boardroom; filing; fieldwork (1) Balancing: Retrieving/placing objects from/to top shelves; (2) Stooping: Filing; packing boxes; moving boxes; drafting; digitizing; fieldwork (2) Kneeling: Filing, packing boxes; fieldwork (2) Crouching: Filing; packing boxes; moving boxes; fieldwork (1) Reaching: Retrieving/placing objects from/to top shelves; filing; desk work; map work (2) Fingering: Keyboarding; calculator; paper work; writing; digitizing (2) Grasping: Telephone; documents/books/files; digitizing; holding luggage (2) Speaking: Discussing assignments/projects/ideas/situations; giving instructions; presentations; meetings; telephone/voice mail (3) Hearing: Discussing assignments/projects/ideas/situations; receiving instructions; presentations; meetings; telephone/voice mail (3) Seeing: Reading; writing; computer work; desk work; presentations; site tours (1) Depth Perception: Driving (2) Color Vision: Graphics work (2) Repetitive Motion: Keyboarding; calculator; drafting; digitizing; writing * Frequency Legend: (0) = Intermittent; (1) = Occasionally, 0-1/3 of workday; (2) = Frequently, 1/3-2/3 of workday; (3) = Continually, 2/3-3/3 of workday WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires travel by automobile and/or commercial airlines within the U.S. Long hours are needed for project/bid work.
