Job Description:
Relocation assistance available. LifeShare is seeking an
experienced, detail-oriented Medical Technologist to plan, organize
and supervise the daily activities of the quality control staff in
our blood components processing laboratory. The MT will oversee the
laboratory processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory
requirements and LifeShare's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Oversight areas include hematology, flow cytometry and bacterial
detection. Makes high level decisions related to the smooth running
of the laboratory and coordinates work flow to ensure donor blood
is processed in a timely, safe and efficient manner. DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides immediate supervision to team members to
ensure tests on donor and patient blood samples are performed in
accordance with written reference procedures, recording observed
results, making interpretations, and completing all required
reports and documentation. Must be able to perform all laboratory
tests required in the processing of blood and blood products.
Monitors advances in laboratory practices, regulatory requirements
and testing equipment in order to recommend, validate and implement
process changes in the laboratory and manufacturing areas. Ensures
all CAP surveys are completed, submitted for approval to QRS team
and entered on CAP website prior to due date. Recognizes
unacceptable test results, troubleshoots and identifies the causes,
makes necessary adjustments to equipment, reagents or procedures
where possible in order to complete testing. Notifies Director of
all deviations and if problems cannot be immediately corrected.
Performs scheduled quality control procedures and observations on
equipment and/or reagents used in the Laboratory, taking corrective
action when results are outside acceptable ranges and completes all
necessary records, reports or documents. Maintains current
scientific and technical knowledge of blood banking,
immunohematology, CLIA, FDA and AABB regulations. Assists in
maintaining accurate and complete donor, patient and quality
control records in both hard copy (paper) and computer record
formats. Also, assists in compiling lab reports. Ensures adequate
levels of supplies are maintained in the laboratory at all times,
ordering when necessary. Maintains all laboratory equipment in good
working order, cleaning and performing preventive maintenance as
needed. Ensures that laboratory staff cleans work areas and
equipment in compliance with SOPs. Assists in training team in
procedures and techniques used in testing blood and blood products
Compiles various statistical reports on laboratory activities and
testing results as needed. Coaches and counsels with employees, and
completes performance reviews for staff development. Models
LifeShare's mission and values, integrating them into daily
decisions, behaviors and actions. Promotes cooperation and
communication within a team to achieve Company and departmental
goals and deliverables. Completes other assignments and duties as
may be assigned. CLIA GENERAL SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES (42 CFR
493.1463): (a) The general supervisor- (1) Must be accessible to
testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide
on-site, telephone or electronic consultation to resolve technical
problems in accordance with policies and procedures established
either by the laboratory director or technical supervisor; (2) Is
responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high complexity
test performance by a testing personnel qualified under --
493.1489; (4) Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and
specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic
performance are maintained. (b) The director or technical
supervisor may delegate to the general supervisor the
responsibility for- (1) Assuring that all remedial actions are
taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's
established performance specifications; (2) Ensuring that patient
test results are not reported until all corrective actions have
been taken and the test system is properly functioning; (3)
Providing orientation to all testing personnel; and (4) Annually
evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing
personnel. Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 3 - 5 years
