Job Description Job Description Emergency Medicine - Physician - Administration Overview: The Vice Chair for Education in Emergency Medicine is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the department's educational initiatives, which encompass undergraduate, graduate, and professional medical education programs. Candidates must hold board certification in Emergency Medicine, demonstrate a strong record of educational achievement, possess administrative experience, and show a dedication to enhancing medical education. The department is recognized nationally for its excellence in clinical care, research, and education, and it supports various residency and fellowship programs. Position Summary The Vice Chair for Education will offer visionary leadership and strategic guidance for the educational offerings within the department, including undergraduate medical education (UME), graduate medical education (GME) encompassing residency and fellowship programs, as well as professional development initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess: Board certification in Emergency Medicine (EM). A minimum rank of Associate Professor. A proven track record of excellence in education, including teaching experience at UME, GME, and/or CME levels. Demonstrated innovation and excellence in educational leadership. A history of mentoring and developing others. Experience in curriculum design and implementation. Administrative experience related to accreditation processes. Strong administrative leadership skills, including emotional intelligence, collaboration, conflict resolution, negotiation, change management, and fiscal oversight. A growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning. A passion and strategic vision for advancing the educational programs of the department. Department Overview The Department of Emergency Medicine is a national leader in clinical care, education, and research, featuring over 100 faculty members and six divisions: operations, emergency medical services, global emergency medicine, emergency medicine research, simulation, and ultrasound. Education is a primary focus for the department, which currently hosts 39 residents in its highly esteemed EM residency program. The program's outstanding reputation is largely attributed to the dedication of faculty and senior residents who prioritize exceptional teaching as a fundamental responsibility. Our third and fourth-year medical student EM courses receive high ratings from students. Additionally, the department offers ACGME-accredited fellowships in EMS, EUFAC-accredited fellowships in Ultrasound, and SAEM-approved fellowships in Global Emergency Medicine and Simulation. Collaborative efforts with other departments and divisions at our institution also facilitate the training of fellows in ACGME-accredited programs in Critical Care Medicine, Clinical Informatics, Sports Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and Pediatric EM. Located in Nashville, TN, our academic and community emergency departments serve over 200,000 patients each year. Physicians in the Department of Emergency Medicine provide emergency services at multiple facilities, including Vanderbilt University Hospital and several community hospitals. Our Research Division stands out as one of the most productive and influential emergency care research teams globally, securing numerous grants and contracts from federal agencies and major industry partners. The division has produced practice-changing data across various fields, including acute heart failure management, resuscitation strategies, airway management, geriatric emergency care, COVID-19 therapies, and emergency department operations. Faculty and researchers contribute over 100 peer-reviewed publications annually and rank 2 nationally in NIH funding, earning respect from peers both nationally and internationally.
