The Intake Manager is responsible for oversight of all assessment, referral and admission activities at Cornerstone Behavioral Health - El Dorado. The Intake Manager ensures prompt response to patient and referral needs, provides clinical assessment and assures appropriateness of risk assessment, crisis interventions and referrals to the appropriate level of care. The Intake Manager promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the hospital.

This is a supervisory position, who directly reports to the Director of Intake & Business Development.

The Intake Manager maintains effective communication with other departments: nursing, medical staff, corporate admissions, social work and business development

  • Completes and /or provides oversight and leadership of all Department activity such as:
  • Sending out bed availability emails and makes availability calls to area EDs and community mental health centers
  • Maintains and provides oversight of packet Status Checklist and updates Daily Intake Flash Report Inputting referral information into the department Wellsky/HCS spreadsheet (source, insurance, packet diagnosis, admit or decline)
  • Oversees timely and appropriate admissions (adherence to inclusionary and exclusionary criteria)
  • Knowledgeable in the various medical insurance company policies
  • Assists with /coordinate insurance verification of benefits (VOB's)
  • Provides/oversees excellent customer services to our patients, families, referral sources and visitors
  • Enters and tracks admission and referral information into HCS adding information such as patient contacts, etc. or correcting errors in dates/times. Oversees and audits admissions entries.
  • Managerial functions include but not limited to hiring, performance evaluations, scheduling and payroll functions
  • Ensures all department policies and procedures are consistent with other hospital operations as well as are EMTALA compliant
  • Provides training to all staff and ensures staff practice is consist with Policy and Procedure and is EMTALA compliant
  • Ensures the department has proper staffing for 24/7 Intake coverage. If there are staffing needs, ensures proper posting of positions with recruitment, reviews candidates resumes and conducts appropriate interviews. If the candidate is selected for a staff position, partners with HR onboarding for timely start date. Assists in planning and conducting Department Orientation of all new staff.

Position Qualifications:

  • Ability to project a professional image
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply professional and ethical standards of practice in job situations
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Must demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of all patients
  • Working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions (order entry, data entry)

Education and/or Experience:

  • Licensed Behavioral Health Professional preferred (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LISAC, RN) but will consider Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health, or related field required with behavioral health intake experience
  • Previous experience in a Level One Psychiatric Hospital, minimum of 1 year, 3 or more years preferred
  • Knowledge of hospital admissions functions, crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomatology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis and behavior management preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • If an RN, must be currently licensed to practice, in good standing throughout employment or a Masters Degree in a Behavioral Health field such as Master of Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Psychology. Licensure in field is required
  • CPR Certification and Handle with Care training required prior to any patient contact and must be maintained throughout employment
